yeah will consider it next time I need front discs. Its lot more expensive and I'd rather spend money actually going racing rather than spending to much on fancy parts and having it parked up

The next big weight saving measure is going to be fibreglass bonnet, which I'll make myself.

Do you have any clips or vids of the car moving Bart? I would love to see this car in action!

Its been such a long time since I've done anything to the car. Got a bonnet sitting here waiting to used as a mold, but just havn't got around to it. 3.5kg has to be better than 13.5 ;) The events I'm planning on entering this year are a few months away so will have to get started soon.

Lets just say I never made it to the 150whp I was aiming for...my next rebuild might make it.

The problem is the standard bottom end...I have no faith it will hold together at 9000rpm for any length of time. A racecar that blows up is useless so I limit my usable RPM to 8500 (8700 cut), just a bit higher than factory assuming they built in a safety margin.

I could just keep reving it higher to get the magic dyno result, but its pointless for bragging rights if I can't actually run it like that all the time. Incidentally, peak power is at 8700 (the highest I've taken it on a dyno). I'm not going to blow it up just to prove a point.

The nearly 150 reliable wheel hp is pretty good for a 1.6L, its lot more than the 120 whp it had when I started tweaking all those years ago. If I ever get around to spending a lot of money on the bottom end it will be to achieve a +10,000rpm limit which IMO will be hard with the engine design the way it is...which is why its an experiment I've been putting off for a very long time.

My family is coming first for the next few years so the car is barely used.

Yea I see your point Bart. Did you ever consider changing to a 1.8 bottom end? but I spose that would put you in the next class up as its a race car.

Thats interesting that your peak power is at 8700 (where your rev cut is), that means the Jun cams really need to be reved quite high to reach their full potential. If the bottom end could hold together at the higher rpm's it would obviously make a lot more.

Only 110whp when the car was stock is surprising though, can't help but feel thats a bit low for a standard Mivec.

I can relate to putting your family first, Im getting married this year so my cars on hold for a while as well.

Sorry my mistake, I dug up an old dyno print and it was doing 118 whp when it was stock. Got another one showing 90kw. I'm pretty sure thats quite typical for standard. One just after I got Jun cams in shows 184hp, I don't like corrected results because a correction is a dodgy estimate of the losses in a gearbox. Who else has a 110kw at wheels mivec 1.6?

Looking though old dyno (and 1/4 mile run slips) brings back fond memories of nightwars and iDrag nationals. Found my 14.01s slip too :)

I didnt run against you very often and when I did i lost. But we certainly had plenty of time to kill in the pits.

Jun cams in a 1.6 Mivec motor will only give you a small gain over factory, they are a very mild cam imo, also just putting a 1.8 bottom end in with a mivec head is an easy way of going backwards, sure you might gain some torque but it will be at the expense of your top end, since Barts car is set up as a race car with very low weight im sure hes after top end, who cares about anything under 5-6k

On another note that 14.01 still hasnt been beaten in NZ as far as im aware :D Which just goes to show how well Barts set up is
