Post subject:  Fuel pressure Regulator for 4G92 MIVEC gen 2

Hi people, I have a mirage asti rs ( year 2000) I bought a fuel pressure regulator and I wanna set up for drags, how many psi are the corrects, 55 psi or 60 psi, I dont any mods in my engine but in the future I wanna chane the throttle in 63mm
pliz I need help

Stock is around 36psi at above 50psi your likely to blow the injectors.

50 psi to blow the injectors? No way Rabbit don't be a pussy.
I've run 5.5 - 6 (thats 80 - 85 PSI) bar through mine repeatedly at the drags.

It will if you use that on the street they burn out.

most cars wont make more flow from 50psi till the injectors fail.

We're talking about a setup for the drags Rabbit. I'm not saying i'd run 5 bar plus all day every day.

Atom, we kept upping the fuel pressure and it kept going faster, so basically just maxed out the fuel reg short of going onto internal relief on the fuel pump. :lol:

I'm a little lost. Why on earth would you want to change your fuel pressure at all? Slicks, suspension and tyre pressure sure, but fuel pressure?!?! Surely your tuning (stock or modified) will be set to a specific fuel pressure?

Never mind the fact that increasing fuel pressure increases injector dead time and may even give poor fuel atomisation at ridiculous pressures.

Just to clarify is this the fuel pressure at idle or under load?

the point in fitting is if you have made more power then std (generally alot more)

gen 1 std pump and fuel pressure reg is a big no no gen 2 is ok
all a reg does is take potential out of the pump and into the injectors (basically)

best way to set it is on the dyno
get in put in and a basic a/f run done and then the change the pressure to get best result

is really only if you got alot more power OR
if your car is out of tun and leaning out at some revs

I running a stock reg on a gen1 and don't have any problems (nice steady pressure), what goes wrong with a gen1 reg Boof? (will need an good excuse to replace it)

People tend to up the fuel pressure to compensate for mods as a cheap'n'nasty way of increasing fueling (across the map) rather than getting their ECUs remapped. Rising rate regualators of course can increase fueling at WOT while mainting stock pressure at cruise. Although for the cost of a good rising rate reg you can almost get a remap done. Good rising rate being one where the rate as well the pressure is adjustable.

If you have a aftermarket ECU or piggyback there is no reason I can see :?: to increase fuel pressure to anything beyond spec and any reg that maintains a good steady presure (compensation only for manifold pressure at 1:1 rate) should be fine.

year its only adjustable reg thats the issue
and its not that, its the fact that its reducing the efficincy of the already lacking fuel pump that is the issue

regs are fine
fuel pumps wont be though

I havent had any problem with mine and Im running about 10% extra pressure. Yes this is a quick and nasty tune for larger TB and intake exhaust mods.

As long as your running a stock ECU (even gizzmo chipped was fine) you probably won't have any problems, but it doesn't have much capacity in reserve. I doubt it would cope with an increase in pressure (I've never tested its actual flow with an increased pressure)

I actually found the problem of fuel surge with the crappy gen1 tank to be much more of problem than the fuel pump, but when I changed to a EVO tank I changed the pump at the same time. The EVO pump would have been fine, but my tank didn't come with one.
